An Open Letter from President & CEO Jennifer Johnson

Dear Clients and Friends,

I am honored to be the new Chief Executive Officer and President of Nitsch Engineering. It is with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of responsibility that I step into this role, and I am eager to work alongside each of you to drive excellence and innovation in the built environment.

I am extremely grateful to have found Nitsch – a company where our mission and core values align with my own personal values, allowing me bring my authentic self to work every day. It’s the place where I’ve honed my engineering expertise, grown my management and leadership skills, and built relationships with people that I respect, trust, and genuinely care about. While I remain passionate about sustainable and resilient design, my focus has shifted to fostering an environment where our employees can pursue their passions and contribute to Nitsch’s success in their own authentic way.

This third-generation leadership position wouldn’t be possible without our founder Judy Nitsch and our most recent CEO Lisa Brothers. Their vision, perseverance, and authentic leadership built our strong foundation that enabled our growth and elevated our firm for 35 successful years. Judy and Lisa established Nitsch as a value-driven and people-centered company with thoughtful leadership transitions, a significant legacy I am committed to upholding.

As I’ve worked with our team through this transition, I have been energized by our unified commitment to our mission and our core values. One of our many superpowers is our ability to lead collaboratively, across all levels and departments, using our collective ingenuity to make our company better every day. Reaffirming how strong our foundation is – built on our history, our people, and our relationships – has empowered us to consider what “Building Better Communities With You” means at this time in our company’s history and the overall state of our industry.

I recognize that our commitment to excellence, quality, and safety will continue to be the cornerstone of our client service and enables our ability to consistently deliver high quality projects. However, the complexities of our planning, land surveying, and engineering work are accelerating, and we must continuously adapt to meet the evolving needs of our company and our industry. Therefore, our strategic vision focuses on building a NEXT-LEVEL experience for our employees, our clients, and our communities.

Put simply, our mindset will center around Engineering for People, meaning that everything we do will consider the people it will impact. We will elevate and celebrate our team and amplify the voices of our clients and the communities we serve. Engineering for People leans into our uncertain and dynamic future and responds to the reality that the future built environment necessitates that all infrastructure is multi-use. For example, a road cannot be solely a means for vehicular transit; it must be a linear park, a heat island refuge, a flood prevention system, and connector and protector of people within a community. This approach requires integrated, multi-disciplinary collaboration and forward-thinking solutions to address the complex challenges we face, emphasizing outside-the-box thinking to tackle land development and infrastructure challenges effectively.

I am excited about the future and look forward to continuing our work together and strengthening our partnerships. By working together, sharing knowledge, and leveraging our collective expertise, we will be able to achieve the significant impact needed to protect people and the built environment into the future. I look forward to engaging with each of you, learning from your experiences, and exploring new ways to collaborate and innovate.
