CitySquare is located on a 20-acre site with 2.1-million-square feet mixed-use development. It re-established city streets which were eliminated by urban renewal in 1968, connected the site with City Hall and Union Station, and included housing, retail and entertainment, underground parking, and office space over four city blocks. This phased project is a prime example of smart growth, as it is in close proximity to public transportation and essential infrastructure.
Nitsch provided extensive utility compilation within the existing mall structure and in the adjacent roadways, performed a topographic and property line survey around the entire mall site, provided numerous American Land Title Association/National Society of Professional Surveyors (ALTA/NSPS) Land Title surveys for project financing, and prepared Eminent Domain Taking Plans for new street layouts to be conveyed to the City of Worcester.
We designed roadways and infrastructure for the new city streets constructed partially atop the structure deck of the mall, over the existing below-grade service loading docks. The below-grade structure was expanded with additional parking. We designed the grading and utility infrastructure to serve the numerous buildings and new municipal roadways. Nitsch’s services also included municipal site permitting and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) permitting.
