Nitsch Launches Research to Quantify the Co-benefits of Green Infrastructure

Nitsch is proud to announce the launch of our latest research initiative, Quantifying the Co-benefits of Green Infrastructure, aimed at deepening the understanding of and communication around how green infrastructure (GI) delivers wide-ranging benefits to communities beyond stormwater improvements. This project bridges the gap between research and real-world application by synthesizing existing research on the environmental, social, and public health impacts of GI solutions into practical decision-making tools.

Recent studies have shown that GI can significantly improve air quality, reduce exposure to extreme heat, and foster social cohesion, contributing to healthier and more resilient communities. Despite these documented benefits, the built environment industry has been slow to adopt intersectional solutions that work across sectors. Nitsch is uniquely positioned to lead this change by leveraging our expertise to create practical applications for our clients and communities.

Our approach recognizes that different communities have different needs. By examining how GI benefits vary across different applications, we are developing context-specific case studies, cost-benefit analysis tools, and visual communications that demonstrate how GI solutions can deliver significant co-benefits tailored to community needs.

This research will utilize the Triple Bottom Line framework, which evaluates outcomes based on social, environmental, and financial criteria, to assess the impact of GI installations and perform cost-benefit analyses to measure their added value. Through this lens, this research aims to empower stakeholders to make informed decisions, promote community health, and advance sustainable infrastructure practices.

This initiative aligns with Nitsch’s mission to develop innovative solutions that address pressing challenges for clients and communities.
