Nitsch Engineering Completes Laser Scanning of Five Bridges

Nitsch Engineering,a Boston-based land surveying, civil and transportation engineering, planning, and GIS firm, has completed their most recent laser scanning survey project, in support of with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s improvements to five bridge crossings over CSX railways in five different communities.

With the survey area located up to 30 feet above an active railway, laser scanning provided a more cost efficient and safe method of documenting the bridge bottom elevations and clearance heights than traditional survey methods. Nitsch Engineering completed the laser scanning, processed the data, and prepared AutoCAD drawings for each bridge to show beam locations, bridge seats, batter of abutments and elevations on the underside of the structures. As the project moves forward, Nitsch Engineering will provide full support for project control, prepare easement and right-of-way alteration plans, and – upon completion of the bridge reconstruction – provide As-Builts of the bridge structure, which will also include laser scanning.

Nitsch Engineering is working as a subconsultant to the design-build team of ET&L Construction, J.F. White, and Fay, Spofford, & Thorndike, Inc. on this project.
