Josh Alston, PE

LEED AP BD+C
Vice President
Risk Manager

While Josh has always excelled in mathematics and the sciences, there were many driving factors that led him to a career in civil engineering. He grew up doing hands-on work including a variety of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, masonry, and mechanical tasks. With Josh’s academic achievements, interest in building and repairing, and passion for the outdoors, civil engineering became his clear career path.

Josh has over 26 years of experience in civil engineering, primarily in the areas of civil/site design and permitting. He has worked on a wide variety of project types, including mixed-use developments, academic facilities, and public facilities. Josh has extensive experience in utility design, including drainage/stormwater management systems, water supplies, and wastewater collection, permitting, and site design. As Risk Manager of Nitsch Engineering, Josh applies his civil engineering background to assist project managers across all of our departments in scope development, contract negotiations, and risk management – all with a focus on loss prevention.

“I have always enjoyed problem solving, which led to my love of site design. Site design is a puzzle, and no two project sites are the same. Although I might use a similar approach on multiple projects, each has their own challenges and unique solutions to be found.”

Outside of Nitsch

Josh has always been drawn to the outdoors and outdoor activities. Whether it be hiking, trail running, biking, canoeing, kayaking, soccer, camping (even if it’s in his own backyard), or simply enjoying a campfire with family and friends, you’re most likely to find Josh outdoors. When he’s not taking in a picturesque view from a lake or mountain, Josh and his wife are the ultimate fans and supporters of watching their daughters, nieces, and nephews perform and compete in their various competitions, concerts, games, and recitals.
