Make a Ripple: Launching the Judith Nitsch Scholarship

In honor of our founder Judy Nitsch’s lifelong commitment to expanding opportunities in the engineering field, Nitsch Engineering is proud to partner with the ACEC/MA Education Corporation (a 501(c)3) to provide a scholarship for students who are traditionally underrepresented in the engineering and/or land surveying fields.

Throughout her career, Judy worked tirelessly to educate grade school students about careers in engineering, and to provide mentorship for college students who were pursuing engineering degrees. From launching Nitsch Engineering’s annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day in 2002 to mentoring dozens of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) students, Judy has helped many young engineers find their way to a fulfilling career. You can learn more about Judy’s exceptional career on our Founder’s Page.

Scholarship Eligibility Guidelines

The Judith Nitsch Scholarship will be awarded to students pursuing an engineering or land surveying degree who are underrepresented in the field. Applicants must:

  • Identify as a woman and/or as a person of color (i.e., Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latinx, or Asian); and
  • Be pursuing an engineering or land surveying degree at an ABET-accredited* bachelor degree program as a junior, senior, or fifth year in college.

Preference will be given to applicants who show demonstrated financial need.

The Application Form and complete eligibility guidelines are posted to the ACEC/MA website here. Applications will be due annually near the end of January.

* An ABET-accredited engineering program is one that conforms to the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) standards. To view a list of accredited engineering programs, visit www.abet.org.

Scholarship Funding

Nitsch Engineering is committed to funding one $5,000 scholarship per year; additional scholarships may be available based on available funding. The annual scholarship will be presented at the ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala.
