Jessica Wala Named ACEC/MA Young Professional of the Year

We’re proud to announce that Senior Project Engineer Jessica Wala, PE, ENV SP, LEED AP ND, was recognized as the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) 2019 Young Professional of the Year. This award recognized Jess for her engineering achievements in design, professional society contributions, and community service activities.

After receiving her degree in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University in 2012, Jess joined Nitsch Engineering. Since then, she has developed a collaborative approach to each of her projects that balances creativity with practicality – and always with a sustainable mindset.

Jess specializes in designing sustainable site solutions that help improve our communities’ resiliency. As a certified LEED Accredited Professional in Neighborhood Development, and an Envision Sustainable Professional of the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure, she has proven that she understands how to incorporate low-impact development techniques and stormwater best management practices for sustainable sites and green infrastructure. She has done this on projects such as the Omni Boston Seaport Hotel in Boston, the Middle-Senior High School in West Bridgewater, Rock Creek green infrastructure improvements in Washington DC, Boston University’s Myles Standish Hall in Boston, the Public Safety building in Scituate, and the Fowler Clark Epstein Farm project in Boston.

Her commitment to design excellence is matched by her passion for community engagement. Jess has served in a leadership capacity for the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section (BSCES) Younger Member Group; served on the Charles River Watershed Association board; engaged students through STEM K-12 outreach; and volunteered with the Greater Boston Foodbank and Future City.

We’re proud of all that Jess has accomplished in her career so far, and hope you’ll join us in congratulating her!
