In November 2017, Greenbuild – the world’s largest conference for the green building community – will bring together tens of thousands of industry leaders, experts, and professionals for several days of inspiring speakers, specialized learning, tours of green buildings in the greater Boston area, and networking opportunities.
As leaders in sustainable site and stormwater management design, Nitsch Engineering is thrilled Greenbuild is returning to Boston and is excited to participate in such a defining A/E/C industry event!
Leading Greenbuild Locally
Judy Nitsch, PE, LEED AP BD+C, Founding Principal of Nitsch Engineering, is serving as the co-chair of the USGBC Massachusetts (USGBC MA) Host Committee, along with Bryan Koop, Executive Vice President at Boston Properties.
In this role, Judy has been working with a team of dozens of volunteers to help promote the conference locally and develop programming and tours that showcase the Boston area as a model for a sustainable and vibrant community.

Designing for Resilience
For the second year in a row, Greenbuild will kick off with a WaterBuild summit! On Tuesday, November 7th, leaders will discuss innovative solutions to challenges such as climate resilience and storm-related community stresses, with specific emphasis placed on the role of innovative water infrastructure solutions.
Join Nitsch Engineering from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. to discuss Innovative Water Management in our Nation’s Capital (WB10). Our Director of Planning, Scott Turner, PE, AICP, LEED AP ND, and DC Water’s Sustainability Chief, Maureen Holman, will discuss the general benefits of Green Infrastructure (GI), as well as how DC Water is using GI solutions as a strategy for managing stormwater, reducing Combined Sewer Overflows to the Potomac River and Rock Creek in Washington DC, and transforming the fabric of the neighborhoods where these facilities will be installed.
Touring Green Projects
The USGBC MA Host Committee has organized 30 tours of local projects that highlight a range of sustainable site and building solutions. Nitsch Engineering is proud to sponsor two of these tours, each of which include a number of our projects.
On Friday, November 10th, join us from 1:30 – 5:30 p.m. for Seaport Sustainability (TF01), a walking tour of Boston’s Innovation District. Just steps from the Greenbuild Conference location, the tour highlights projects in Boston’s Seaport area – a LEED ND neighborhood that was once a sea of parking lots.
Each parcel is a part of an ambitious plan to reconnect the City to the waterfront and create a thriving new community for Boston’s residents and businesses. Participants will visit multiple LEED buildings and creative outdoor spaces.
On Saturday, November 11th, join us from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. for an all-day tour of Harvard University’s sustainable facilities during Harvard Green (TS01). Participants will be able to see the famous Harvard Yard and stroll across the Charles River to the Harvard Business School, while learning from Harvard’s Office for Sustainability, Green Building Services, and faculty about how Harvard’s campus serves as a living lab putting the latest sustainability research into practice.
