We’re always ready to jump at an opportunity to share why we love what we do! Recently, we were excited to do exactly that as a guest at The EcoTarium museum of science and nature in Worcester, Massachusetts for Engineering Week.
Engineering Week (or EWeek) is an annual event founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers dedicated to spreading the word about the positive impact engineering as a profession has on our communities. Hosted during school vacation week, the EcoTarium was bustling with excited grade schoolers and their parents during our visit on February 28th!
Vice President & Principal, Sandra Brock, PE, CFM, LEED AP BD+C; Senior Planner, Brian Creamer, SITES, AICP; and Project Manager, Jared Gentilucci, PE, CPESC, LEED AP BD+C staffed an activity table where the kids got to build “boats” out of aluminum foil! The goal was then to try and make the boats float in a makeshift ocean (comprised of a large plastic container filled with water), with the challenge of filling their boats with items (like pennies and small toys) to see how much weight they could hold before sinking. Our table also featured magnets that were used to demonstrate how they work both out of and under water. Our table was a big hit, with over 100 people stopping by to check it out!
