Sandra Brock, PE, LEED® AP, to Speak at Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions’ Annual Environmental Conference

February 12 , 2009; Boston, Mass. –Sandra A. Brock, PE, LEED® AP, Nitsch Engineering’s Chief Engineer, will speak at the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions’ (MACC’s) Annual Environmental Conference in Worcester, Massachusetts on Saturday, February 28, 2009. Ms. Brock will speak alongside Ms. Francesca Maltese, Development Manager for The O’Connell Development Group, on the topic, “Elements of Green Site Planning and Construction.”

The popularity of green building is good news, especially for Conservation Commissioners who must focus on reinforcing environmental sustainability in all of their efforts. In this workshop, Ms. Brock and Ms. Maltese will cover topics such as:

  1. How sustainable or “green” design involves minimizing the ecological impact of a building throughout its life cycle;
  2. An overview of the LEED® Certification point system;
  3. How the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s proposed stormwater standards compare to LEED® stormwater credits;
  4. Some issues builders and developers face in deciding “how green” to make their projects; and
  5. The role of the Conservation Commission in supporting building and site relationships as the basis of sustainable design.

With over 1,000 attendees, the MACC Annual Environmental Conference is the largest annual environmental conference in New England. The conference includes more than 40 workshop and training events, all of which are taught by recognized experts in the field.
