Belmont Hill School’s indoor athletic facilities needed significant upgrading. Two separate, adjacent buildings housed an ice rink — a prefabricated structure with extensive maintenance needs – and a gymnasium — a building too small to meet the needs of a growing student population. To ensure that the students continued their competitive athletic programs, school officials mandated construction of the new 95,000-square-foot multi-purpose facility; the old buildings would come off-line only after the new singular counterpart was ready. Nitsch Engineering’s engineers were sensitive to the school’s needs and designed the site utilities (water, sewer, storm drains), layout, and phasing without disrupting the sports programs. Despite the challenges in maintaining existing utilities while constructing new ones in the same location, Nitsch Engineering completed the job on time and within budget.
