Contact Scott D. Turner, PE, AICP, LEED AP ND, Director of Planning, with any questions regarding Nitsch Engineering’s planning capabilities, experience, or services.
At Nitsch Engineering, our planners draw upon our firm’s core engineering expertise to provide planning services in three focused areas: Strategic Site Planning, Stormwater/Green Infrastructure Planning, and Comprehensive Municipal Planning. In each of these areas, our plans combine high-level goals with specific technical details based on engineering fundamentals and principles.
Strategic Site Planning
Nitsch Engineering takes an integrated approach to providing strategic site planning services. Working closely with our clients, we prepare due diligence or best-use studies, evaluate sites to recommend alternative plans, and estimate the cost and development schedule to help determine the best use development for the client and/or community. We also assist our clients in developing permitting strategies at the beginning of each project. Our state-of-the-art software allows Nitsch Engineering to provide in-depth site development options in an efficient manner, allowing potential developers or property owners to evaluate different development scenarios and to make fast and informed decisions earlier on in the development process. Once a development program is decided upon, we work collaboratively with the rest of the project team to prepare permitting documents that are suitable for filing with local, state, and federal authorities.
Stormwater/Green Infrastructure Planning
Sustainable stormwater and green infrastructure solutions are in high demand, and Nitsch Engineering is uniquely qualified to help municipal, institutional, and private development clients meet these goals. Drawing from our years of experience in planning and designing sustainable infrastructure, we prepare stormwater master plans that address long-term drainage solutions for a site, a campus, or a community. By integrating the desired build-out scenario with sustainable Best Management Practices, Nitsch Engineering develops plans that provide strategic and cost-effective land use, as well as environmental protection. Our plans strive to seamlessly integrate sustainable stormwater solutions into the landscape, allowing the solutions to become a site or regional amenity.
Comprehensive Municipal Planning
Working closely with our civil and transportation engineers, Nitsch Engineering provides a range of services for municipal clients including providing infrastructure planning; reviewing site designs for Planning Boards, Zoning Boards of Appeal, and/or Conservation Commissions; assisting in the development of municipal regulations and design standards; and helping develop traditional planning documents such as economic development plans, land use plans, and comprehensive plans. In addition, Nitsch Engineering has helped municipalities attain grant funding for stormwater and transportation improvements. Through these services, we support our municipal clients in achieving their vision for their community.
“The Groton Planning Board voted unanimously to write a letter of recommendation for Nitsch Engineering. The Board depends upon their engineering expertise in its decision-making process. Over the years, Nitsch Engineering has conducted several education seminars on engineering issues for Town officials. In addition, the firm has provided expert witness services and given court testimony on behalf of the Planning Board and other Town departments, which has been invaluable to the Town.”
