Nitsch Engineering provided civil engineering services for a 72,000-square-foot addition and site improvements at Heywood Hospital, a community hospital. The new four-story structure will house a main lobby, a 20-bed emergency center, a 25-bed surgical floor, a 19-bed telemetry and medical surgery floor, a six-bed intensive care unit, an in-patient nursing unit, and a mechanical penthouse. The project includes designated ambulance bays and a new front entrance to the hospital.
Nitsch Engineering provided site utilities, layout, and grading design, which addressed the eight-foot drop from the main entry to the main visitor parking lot. We analyzed vehicular access to the new addition and the existing building. We also provided assistance for the sewer connection permit, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit through the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and permitting with the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.
