Nitsch Engineering provided land surveying and civil engineering services for the redevelopment of a three-story mill building and warehouse and construction of a 15,000-square-foot addition to create a new, 900-student grammar school (Grades K-6) in the Hyde Park area of Boston. The project, which is on a six-acre lot, included ancillary parking and site drainage improvements. We worked with the Boston Water and Sewer Commission and the Neponset River Watershed Association to incorporate Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce the bacterial load to the adjacent Mother Brook through the design and specification of tree-box filters as stormwater management devices. The school was designed to meet LEED standards. This project received a 2011 Preservation Achievement Award from the Boston Preservation Alliance.
