Nitsch Engineering provided civil engineering services for two new hotels (315,000 square feet total) on D Street in South Boston: the Aloft Hotel and the Element Hotel, including 26,300 square feet of ground-floor retail and a 1,350-space parking garage. The buildings are across the street from the popular Lawn on D and a short walk from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC).
Working with Commonwealth Ventures, who is leasing the land from the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA), Nitsch Engineering supported the design, permitting, and construction of the hotel buildings, new service driveways, public sidewalk reconstruction, stormwater treatment and recharge, and new utility services. All improvements were designed, permitted, and constructed in two development packages.
Nitsch Engineering provided permitting services for the Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) Notice of Project Change (NPC), United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for stormwater discharges, Boston Public Works Department (BPWD), Public Improvement Commission (PIC), and Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC). We also provided construction administration services.
