Community Involvement
At Nitsch Engineering, we take our tagline – “Building better communities with you” – seriously. We are committed to making our community stronger and more sustainable, and to supporting our employees in making positive contributions to our community and environment.
Community Service
By coordinating in-house events that support a number of causes, Nitsch Engineering encourages our employees to give back to the community. Events include:
- JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge
Our employees are always eager to lace up their sneakers to participate in the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge, which donates its proceeds to different charities. In 2008, we won one of three prizes in the T-Shirt-Design Competition with a design that highlighted our sustainable goals. We donated our $500 prize to Camp Harbor View, the 2008 race beneficiary and a Nitsch Engineering project; it will go towards making a camper's summer extra fun! - Toys for Tots
An in-house Toys for Tots drive every December provides new toys to Massachusetts children in need.
- Adopt a Family
Employees donate necessary items and toys to a family in need at Christmas (through the Massachusetts Department of Social Services). The company contributes a Shaw’s gift card in honor of each employee who contributes.
- Can Share
An in-house canned food drive benefits the annual Can Share program, which helps combat hunger in Boston.
- Canstruction
Employees participate in the annual Canstruction competition, designing and building a unique structure using canned and packaged foods that the company has purchased. After the event is over, the food is donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank and distributed to 106 food pantries in Boston. Click here to view our 2008 People's Choice Award Winner!
- Community Servings
Our employees regularly volunteer at Community Servings, an organization that provides home-delivered meals to people with acute life-threatening illnesses who are unable to shop or cook for themselves. Nitsch Engineering was also the civil engineer for their new facility, which opened in 2007.
- Wear Red Day
When our employees wear red on National Wear Red Day, we donate to the American Heart Association, the national sponsor of the awareness campaign for women and heart disease.
- The American Cancer Society, Daffodil Days
Our employees take advantage of the in-house Daffodil Days campaign, which benefits the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
- Blood Drive
We sponsor employee blood drives on a regular basis.
Educational Support
Nitsch Engineering believes that supporting engineering education is critical to our professional community. We support a number of educational initiatives:
- Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
Since 2001, we have held an annual event for 6th – 12th grade girls to increase their interest in math and science, to educate them about the various engineering fields (there is a different theme every year), and to demonstrate that engineering is fun!
- Speaking to College & University Students
Our staff speaks to engineering students at Tufts University, Worcester Polytechnic University, UMass Amherst, Carnegie Mellon University, and Northeastern University … and we’re always willing to go somewhere new!
- UMaine Surveying Scholarship
Nitsch Engineering offers an annual scholarship and co-op opportunities to survey students.
